KTFMC Shoot 2012-191The 12th annual KTFMC Sporting Clays Tournament was once again held at Elk Creek Hunt Club in Owenton, Kentucky on August 25th. Eighteen teams took to the course designed by world class shooter, Jon Kruger.

This year’s tournament featured the first ever “Equine Clinic Challenge” in which teams from Park Equine, Hagyard Equine Medical Institute, Rood and Riddle Equine Clinic and Lexington Equine Surgery and Sports Medicine competed against each other in addition to competing with the other teams.

Sporting Clay teams consist of three shooters attempting to break one hundred clay targets at 17 different stands. Dr. Tom Seahorn, representing Lexington Equine Surgery and Sports Medicine was the day’s top shooter breaking an amazing 95 out of a possible 100. Dr. Seahorn along with Wes Sutter and Joe Lyman took both the overall top prize and first place in the Equine Clinic Challenge. Second place overall and second in the Equine Clinic Challenge was Rood and Riddle’s team consisting of Brad Tanner, Jeff Henderson and Charlie McKinley. Rounding out third place overall was the Creech Team of Gatewood Gay, Steve Isaacs and Don Swanson. The third place team in the Equine Clinic Challenge was the Haygard Equine Medical team of Dr. Sam Schalnus, Dustin Mallory and Dr. Ben Shrauner.

After a fun and exciting day out on the course while the scores were tallied and placings were determined, shooters were able to relax and relive the morning’s shooting over a delicious steak lunch.

Rounding out the awards for the day were prizes for the worst shooter and second worst shooter, which went to Shawnee Farm shooters Guy Harris and Jack Cline. Guy was awarded a shooting lesson courtesy of Elk Creek Hunt Club and Jack Cline received a bottle of very cheap bourbon.

Classic Arms and Archery once again donated a Henry lever action .22 rifle for the Raffle and they also donated a number of door prizes. Make plans for your team in 2013 and get tuned up for dove season.
